My Piggy and My Picasso

There's a bit of a mystery here in our house. The doctors can't explain it. We don't understand it. And logic just doesn't follow it.

We have one child who continues to drop lower and lower on the growth charts for weight and barely comes in at average on height. We have another child who at 3 is weighing in at nearly 50 lbs. and measures as high as an above average 5 year old. When you look across the genetics of our families, we realize the gene pool is nothing more than a crap shoot. So the mystery is not in their differences of physique.

The mystery is in their dietary consumption. The big one....who continues to get bigger....and runs at 110% from dawn 'til dusk...EATS NEARLY NOTHING. A cup of dry cereal here, 1/2 a peanut butter sandwich there, and occasionally a bite or two of chicken. (Although it should be noted, his appetite for all things sugar is endless.)

The little one....who gains almost no weight....as she continues to get taller...and sleeps more than the aforementioned child ever has....EATS LIKE A PIG. Scrambled eggs, toast, and strawberries for breakfast. Cereal bar for a mid-morning snack. Macaroni & cheese and grapes for lunch. Fruit strip for an afternoon snack. Vegetable soup and meat sticks for dinner. Popcorn for a before-bed munchie.

And she's serious about her food. If she's downstairs, she goes to her booster seat and shakes it until I come and put her in it. If we start to go upstairs and she's hungry, she will start screaming and crying until we go back to the kitchen for a snack first. And if she sees a box of macaroni & cheese....well, just get the earplugs out because she's going to scream until it's ready.

And she's really messy. She almost always has to eat in her diaper as to not ruin the adorable creations made by her Bebe and Aunt Zsazsie. This is a picture after a round of macaroni & cheese. Her hair is sticking out because it's full of cheese...

...and if you look closely, you can see the macaroni stuck in the back of her hair as she runs for her second favorite place...the bath tub.

Luckily....she cleans up well.

And while the big one, aka Clinton...is not a good eater, he is very good at something else--making artwork for the playroom. I've had his easel out quite a bit this summer and have been framing his artwork in big, black frames for the playroom. So cute. We just had the playroom painted today, so as soon as I get everything hung back on the walls, I will post pictures of the masterpieces being displayed.

Appreciating ALL talents,
